Privacy policy
Your information, handled with care.
True North Accounting & Tax (ABN 50 251 074 383) respects your privacy and handles personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and our obligations as a registered BAS agent under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 and the TPB Code of Professional Conduct.
What we collect. Your name and contact details, and the financial and tax information you give us so we can provide our services, such as income, expenses, bank details and your tax file number.
How we use it. Only to provide the services you've engaged us for, to meet our legal obligations, and to contact you about your affairs. We don't sell your information or use it for unrelated marketing.
Who we share it with. The ATO and other government agencies as required for lodgement, and trusted software providers we use to deliver our services (for example accounting and practice-management software), who are bound to protect it.
Where it's stored. We use cloud-based accounting, payroll and document software. Some of these providers store data on servers outside Australia, for example in the United States. We choose providers that meet strong security standards and take reasonable steps to make sure they protect your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Your tax file number. We only collect your TFN where the law allows it and only use it for the BAS and payroll services we provide, as set out in the Privacy (Tax File Number) Rule 2015. Please don't send your TFN by ordinary email or through the website. We'll give you a secure way to provide it. TFN records are kept with restricted access and securely destroyed once we no longer need them.
Keeping it safe. We store records securely, limit who can access them and keep them only as long as the law requires (generally five years). If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Access and correction. You can ask to see or correct the information we hold about you by emailing hollie@truenorthtax.com.au or calling 0434 613 073.
Making a complaint. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the OAIC at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992. Concerns about our conduct as a BAS agent can also be raised with the Tax Practitioners Board.
